DO YOU KNOW THE HISTORY OF THE TRADITIONAL SWEET CALLED MELOMAKARONO ?
It’s one of the two major Christmas treats…
The word “melomakarono” comes from ancient Greece and specifically from the medieval Greek word “makaria”, or, soul pie which was a piece of bread in the shape of today’s melomakarono which they offered after a funeral for the deceased blessing.
There are other words that derive from the word “makaria”, such as the word wish and blissful, which are words with positive and hopeful meaning, and later, even the word “makaronada” which is a reference to a type of pasta.
In the next years that “makaria” was covered with honey and it was named “melomakarono” and became a typical sweet of Christmas, since honey is considered from ancient times a symbol of well-being and creation; two things that we always wish for the New Year…
Its crunchy taste, its herbs with strong smell, honey and the use of plenty sprinkled nuts create this combination. Made with pure products which can skyrocket its taste and leave the best impressions in the festive gatherings each year!
